Why read Chinese at your own HSK level?
Finding Chinese reading practice at the right level is one of the hardest parts of learning Mandarin. Native articles and news are full of vocabulary far beyond your level, so you spend more time in the dictionary than actually reading. Textbook passages sit at a fixed level and quickly become repetitive. What most intermediate learners really want is simple: real, interesting Chinese reading material pitched at HSK 3, HSK 4, or wherever they happen to be.
Reading is most effective when the text is just slightly above your current level — challenging enough to teach you new words, but easy enough to follow without translating every sentence. Frequently asked questions
Is the generated Chinese natural?
Yes. We tested several AI models with native Chinese speakers and built the tool around the one that produced the most natural writing. HSK 4 and HSK 5 are where it performs best; HSK 2 and HSK 3 are simpler by design and still being fine-tuned.
Which HSK levels can I choose?
HSK 2 through HSK 5. HSK 4 and HSK 5 are the most polished levels. HSK 1 isn't available yet — we'll add it once the quality meets our bar.
What can I use as the source?
A link to almost any article or blog post, in any language, or a written prompt describing the story or topic you want. There's no “choose from a library” option on this page — that's available inside the Mandarin Mosaic app.
How much does it cost?
The web tool is free. You'll need to give a valid email address and may be asked to verify it; your finished article is then emailed to you.
