When you begin learning Chinese, one of the first things you'll want to do is enable a Chinese keyboard on your device and start learning how to type Chinese characters.
Typing Chinese characters is also required in Mandarin Mosaic to answer cloze tests and forms a major part of your learning.
In order to type in Chinese you'll use a system called pinyin to enter characters. In this guide we'll cover what pinyin is and how to use it to start typing in Chinese.
You can then click "Open File" to select a Chinese Anki deck, a text file containing chinese sentences or a csv file.
In Anki decks, the Chinese and English are stored in different fields in the file. Similarly, for csv and text files Mandarin Mosaic will attempt to automatically detect the Chinese and English columns in the file.
You can change the columns and delimiter used and preview a sample of the imported sentences. When you're happy with the format you can click Import to complete the import.
Currently, importing media such as images and audio from Anki decks is not supported, but Mandarin Mosaic will automatically assign an image to each sentence from our library.
Similarly, lifelike audio readout is always available for all sentences. Using this method, your csv, text files and Chinese Anki decks will be turned into Chinese flashcards and enriched with images and audio when you import.
For a list of Chinese Anki decks, you can visit Anki Chinese shared decks of which the vast majority are compatible with import into Mandarin Mosaic.
