The biggest and busiest Discord server for learning Chinese we found is 中英交流 Chinese-English Language Exchange, with about 83,000 members. The /r/ChineseLanguage server is the next largest, at about 45,000. Below are seven servers whose invite links we checked in October 2026, with what each is best for: language exchange and voice chat, questions and challenges, free lessons, learning from dramas and books, immersion, and Taiwan. After the list are tips for getting real practice out of a server, and how to stay safe.

The Servers at a Glance

Member counts are rounded, from Discord at the time of writing (October 2026). “Voice chat” means the server or its own guide says it has voice channels for practice; “not stated” means its public description doesn’t mention them.

Language Exchange and Voice Chat

1. 中英交流 Chinese-English Language Exchange

中英交流 (zhōng yīng jiāoliú, Chinese-English exchange) is the server to join if you only join one. It started in January 2017 and describes itself as “the original Chinese-English language learning server with the most active Chinese voice and text chats on Discord” (its Discord page). It’s a true exchange: it has English-learning channels for Chinese speakers as well as Chinese channels for learners, so there are plenty of native speakers around to answer you, and they’re happy to, because you can help them back.

  • Who it suits: anyone past the absolute basics who wants to talk, especially in voice chat. At about 7,000 members online when we checked, someone is always in a voice channel.
  • What’s there: English-learning channels for Chinese speakers and Chinese channels for learners, weekly handwriting challenges, and frequent karaoke and other events, according to the server’s own description.
  • Other Chinese languages: it also has communities for Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka and others, which is handy if you’re curious about them, though this page is about Mandarin.

Join 中英交流 Chinese-English Language Exchange (about 83,000 members).

2. Chinese Plus

Chinese Plus is a smaller Chinese–English study server, set up in November 2021. It says many of its members are native speakers of Chinese or English, and lists voice calls, free weekly language lessons, study groups, a partner programme and homework help among its activities, along with “correcting each other’s mistakes” (its Discord page).

  • Who it suits: learners who want more structure than a big chat server gives: a lesson to turn up to, a study group, or a regular partner.
  • Size: about 12,500 members, with around 750 online when we checked. Smaller servers are often easier to get noticed in, so your questions are less likely to scroll away.

Join Chinese Plus (about 12,500 members).

Learning Communities: Questions, Challenges and Resources

3. /r/ChineseLanguage

This server is linked to the r/ChineseLanguage subreddit. It calls itself a community “for everyone interested in the Chinese languages”, welcoming learners, native speakers and enthusiasts. It’s more about learning than exchange: a good place to ask why a sentence is built the way it is, or which textbook to use next.

  • Who it suits: learners at any level who like asking questions in English and getting answers from people who’ve learned Chinese themselves, as well as from native speakers.
  • Challenges and voice: an older learner’s guide written by one of its members says the server runs “many different events”, including a regular Pronunciation Challenge, and suggests joining a voice channel to get feedback on your speaking (the /r/ChineseLanguage Discord guide).

Join /r/ChineseLanguage (about 45,000 members).

4. 看剧学汉语

看剧学汉语 (kàn jù xué hànyǔ) means “learn Chinese by watching dramas”. The server says it’s for discussing “Chinese TV, movies, books and other material”, and that it runs weekly Mandarin reading, writing and speaking challenges and daily word-usage streaks (its Discord page). It started in June 2020.

  • Who it suits: learners who already watch C-dramas or read web novels and want people to talk about them with, or who need a weekly challenge to keep them writing.
  • Size: about 7,000 members, with nearly 800 online when we checked: a high share for its size.

Join 看剧学汉语 (about 7,000 members).

Immersion Learners

5. Refold – 汉语 (ZH)

Refold is a method for learning languages mainly through native content, and this is its Mandarin community. The server describes learning by watching “movies, TV, C Dramas, YouTube” and reading “books, stories, web novels, manhua”, and says you’ll connect with other learners and native speakers there (its Discord page).

  • Who it suits: learners who are building their study around watching and reading rather than textbooks, and want advice from people doing the same. If that’s you, our guide to Chinese immersion at home covers how to set it up.
  • Size: about 7,400 members, with around 750 online when we checked.

Join Refold – 汉语 (ZH) (about 7,400 members).

6. Migaku

Migaku makes a browser extension and app for learning from native content, and its Discord covers all the languages it supports, Mandarin and Cantonese among them. Migaku’s own guide to the server lists a Chinese chat channel, resource and media-recommendation channels, separate language-partner rooms for Taiwanese and Mainland Mandarin, and voice channels for studying out loud. New members answer a few questions when they join, which gives them the roles that open the right channels (Migaku).

  • Who it suits: immersion learners, and anyone who wants a language partner for Taiwanese Mandarin in particular.
  • Keep in mind: it’s a company’s server, so some channels are about its software. The 22,000 members are spread across all its languages, so the Chinese channels are much smaller than that.

Join Migaku (about 22,000 members across all languages).

Is There a Traditional Chinese or Taiwan Server?

We didn’t find a large, active server just for learning Taiwan Mandarin or Traditional characters with a permanent invite. The two best options are the Migaku server above, with its Taiwanese Mandarin partner room, and a general Taiwan community.

7. Taiwan

This server, simply called Taiwan, is a community for people living in Taiwan, moving there, or interested in it. It isn’t a learning server, but its “Cram School” section has a 國語 (guóyǔ, Taiwan’s name for Mandarin) help channel to “learn and practice Mandarin Chinese”, and there’s a chat channel for members who would rather talk in Chinese (Taiwan Discord). It also has help channels for Taiwanese Hokkien and Hakka.

  • Who it suits: learners of Taiwan Mandarin and Traditional characters, and anyone planning to study or work in Taiwan. Our post on learning Traditional Chinese explains how the two scripts differ.
  • Keep in mind: most of the server is about life in Taiwan, including politics channels, and its Discord description warns that it removes members often, so read the rules first. New members may have to apply and wait for a moderator to approve them. It has about 2,600 members, but nearly 600 were online when we checked.

Join Taiwan (about 2,600 members).

How to Get the Most Out of a Chinese Discord Server

Joining is easy. The hard part is turning a busy chat into practice. These habits help:

  1. Read the rules and pick your roles first. Most servers ask you to choose your level and the languages you speak and learn when you join. These roles decide which channels you see, and they tell native speakers how simply to write to you.
  2. Start in the beginner or level-based channels. They move more slowly, and people there expect mistakes.
  3. Write in Chinese and ask for corrections. Short messages are fine. Native speakers will usually correct you if you ask, so say so.
  4. Join voice chat, even just to listen. Sitting in a voice channel while others talk is good listening practice. When you’re ready, say a sentence or two. Some servers also help you find a partner for one-to-one practice; our guide to tandem language learning explains how to run those sessions so both of you get a fair share.
  5. Help people learning English. On an exchange server, answering their questions is how you build friendships with the native speakers who’ll answer yours.

These phrases are useful when you post:

ChinesePinyinMeaning
我是初学者。wǒ shì chūxuézhě.I’m a beginner.
这样说对吗?zhèyàng shuō duì ma?Is it right to say it like this?
请帮我改一下。qǐng bāng wǒ gǎi yíxià.Please correct this for me.
有更自然的说法吗?yǒu gèng zìrán de shuōfǎ ma?Is there a more natural way to say it?
这个用中文怎么说?zhège yòng zhōngwén zěnme shuō?How do you say this in Chinese?

Nervous About Voice Chat?

Most learners are. It helps to have a few sentences you can say without thinking, like the ones above, and to practise saying them aloud first. If you want feedback before you speak to real people, the Chunking Chinese fluency trainer is a browser-based speaking app: it gives you English prompts to say in Chinese, built from reusable chunks like 我想问一下 (wǒ xiǎng wèn yíxià, I’d like to ask…), and scores your tones and sounds character by character. At the time of writing it has a 7-day free trial, then costs $30 a month, and there’s a waiting list.

Keep the Sentences People Correct for You

The most valuable thing a Discord server gives you is a corrected sentence: something you wanted to say, put right by a native speaker. Those are easy to lose in a fast chat, so copy them out. A sentence you wanted to say yourself, with one or two new words, is exactly what sentence mining looks for.

Mandarin Mosaic can turn them into practice. Add each corrected sentence as a Custom Sentence (the free plan holds 10; Premium has no limit), and the app reads it aloud, shows the pinyin, and brings it back with spaced repetition until you remember it. It’s on iPhone and Android, and at the time of writing Premium’s first month is free. Get it on iOS or Android.

Staying Safe on Discord

  • Age: Discord’s terms say you must be at least 13, and old enough to meet the minimum age in your country, which is higher in some places (Discord Terms of Service).
  • Scam messages: be wary of strangers who message you out of the blue, especially with offers of free Nitro, gifts or “special access”. Discord warns about lookalike links, software you’re asked to run, and people who rush you. Never share your password, never scan a QR code from someone you don’t know, and turn on two-factor authentication (Discord Safety Center).
  • Direct messages: in Privacy & Safety settings, turn off “Allow direct messages from server members” before you join (or change it in a server’s own Privacy Settings), so strangers there can’t message you directly. A language partner can always ask in a public channel first.
  • Personal details: don’t share your full name, address, workplace or other contact details in public channels. Move to another app only with someone you’ve got to know.
  • Each server’s rules: read them. Many have rules on which language to use in which channel and when you may DM members, and moderators enforce them.

Other Places Like Discord to Practise Chinese

Discord isn’t the only option. The r/ChineseLanguage and r/LearnChinese subreddits are better for questions you want a considered answer to, and their old threads are worth searching. Language exchange apps like HelloTalk and Tandem match you one-to-one with Chinese speakers who are learning English; see our guide to tandem language learning. WeChat groups are where many Chinese speakers actually chat, but you usually join one through an invitation or a QR code from a member. For a wider list of free resources, see the best ways to learn Mandarin online for free, and to fit Discord into a routine, our Chinese study plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Discord for learning Chinese?

Yes, several. The largest is 中英交流 Chinese-English Language Exchange (discord.gg/c-e), with about 83,000 members in October 2026, followed by the /r/ChineseLanguage server (discord.gg/chineselanguage), with about 45,000. Both are free.

How do I find Chinese speakers on Discord?

Join a Chinese–English exchange server such as 中英交流 or Chinese Plus, where many members are native Chinese speakers learning English. Look for a partner-finding channel, or join a voice channel. Offering help with English is the easiest way to get help with Chinese.

Are Discord servers good for learning Chinese?

They’re good for practice, questions and motivation, but they won’t teach you Chinese on their own. Use them alongside a course or app that builds your vocabulary, and save the sentences people correct for you so you can review them.

Is there a Traditional Chinese or Taiwan Discord server?

Not a large one just for learning that we could find. The Taiwan server (discord.gg/6yQnT46qsB) has a Mandarin help channel and members who live in Taiwan, and Migaku’s server has a language-partner room for Taiwanese Mandarin.

Is there a Discord server for Chinese beginners?

All of these accept beginners. On joining, pick the beginner or level role most servers offer, and start in the channels for your level. The /r/ChineseLanguage server is a comfortable place to ask beginner questions in English.

Do Chinese learning Discord servers cost anything?

No. All the servers on this page are free to join. Some run events or lessons that are free too, but be careful with anyone who offers paid lessons in a direct message.
